Root Canal Treatment in

We understand that a root canal is many patients’ greatest fear when it comes to the dentist. However, root canal therapy can save you from needing a full tooth extraction. The most important thing to remember is that root canal therapy, also called endodontic therapy, is about relieving the pain from a toothache, not causing it. At Highland Oaks Family Dentistry, we provide gentle root canal therapy to help heal abscessed teeth and get rid of an infection.

Why Would I Need Root Canal Treatment?

Even though our teeth are meant to last us a lifetime, certain conditions can lead to serious enough damage that you could risk losing your tooth. Infection could arise from a crack or chip, severe decay, the result of repeated dental procedures on the same tooth, a large filling, or a dental injury. Essentially, we recommend root canal treatment if it’s necessary to save your tooth and to help you avoid getting an extraction.

So what are some signs that you may need root canal treatment? Here are a few symptoms to look out for:

  • Toothache — Pain is the most common indicator that you may need a root canal. This pain can occur while you eat, drink, or however else you put pressure on the area.
  • Tooth Sensitivity — You may feel a lingering sensation after drinking hot or cold liquids or eating hot or cold foods.
  • Red or Swollen Gums — Inflammation could be a sign of periodontal disease, but it could also mean that the tooth infection has spread into your gums.
  • Abscess — Sometimes, an abscess (or infection) will cause a small bump that looks like a pimple to form on the gums.
  • Darkening of Tooth — It’s one thing to have yellow stains or discoloration on your teeth, but it’s another if a specific tooth is turning gray due to an internal infection.

What is Root Canal Treatment Like?

Before beginning the root canal procedure, we will need to perform an exam to see which tooth is infected and what the cause of the infection is. With this, along with your patient history, medical history, and X-rays, we’ll be able to plan your root canal treatment.

Once it’s time to begin the procedure, we will apply a local anesthetic so that the infected tooth and its surrounding area is numb. At Highland Oaks Family Dentistry, we also offer our patients the option of sedation to help them overcome any fear or anxiety they have about their root canal treatment. Next, we’ll clean out the diseased tissue from the tooth and disinfect the root canals. Then, we will seal the canals to protect them from becoming reinfected. Finally, we will place a filling to seal off and strengthen the tooth. That’s it! You may experience some slight discomfort after the procedure, which you can manage with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Rest assured that our team will walk you through what we will be doing throughout the procedure, and we will also go over aftercare instructions. We’ve found that helping our patients understand exactly what to expect can help ease any apprehension or worry they might feel. If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

What Is the Cost of a Root Canal?

The cost of your root canal depends on which tooth is being treated. We would also need to check to see if your insurance covers any of the procedure. Highland Oaks Family Dentistry accepts most PPO insurance plans. Even if you don’t have insurance, you can get a discount on your procedure by joining our Dental Savers Plan. As a member, you’ll get 30-50% off average treatment fees in the area. We want to be the go-to dentist for an affordable root canal in Keller and the surrounding areas!
